Best Time to Visit:

Discover the Bajre Dara Trek: Sikkim’s Hidden Gem for Beginners

Embark on the Bajre Dara Trek, one of Sikkim’s most captivating offbeat trails. Ideal for those new to trekking, this short adventure offers two nights of camping deep within the jungle, promising an immersive experience in nature.


The Bajre Dara Trek takes you through enchanting, untouched forests to the first campsite at Bhanjung, providing an ideal escape from the crowds. On the second day, ascend to 11,000 feet at the Bajre Dara summit, where you’ll encounter a unique landscape of scorched pine trees, remnants of a massive thunderstorm in 1974. From this vantage point, enjoy breathtaking close-up views of Mt. Kanchenjunga and its surrounding ranges. The name Bajre Dara, meaning “Thunder Top,” reflects the dramatic history and awe-inspiring vistas of this mountain peak.

Short Itinerary

Day 1: NJP TO KECHEOPALRI/SAMTEK (150 KM Drive + 1 hour hike)

Enjoy a 6-7 hour drive from NJP to Kecheopalri village, followed by a short 1-hour hike to reach our basecamp. Spend the night at a charming homestay in Samtek, Kecheopalri.

Day 2: SAMTEK TO BHANJUNG (10 KM Trek 4-5 Hours)

After breakfast, begin your trek from Kecheopalri to the Bhanjung campsite, covering a distance of 10 kilometers in approximately 4-5 hours. Enjoy an overnight stay at the Bhanjung campsite. A packed lunch will be provided along the way.

Day 3: BHANJUNG TO BAJREDARA (6 KM Trek 4-5 Hours)

After breakfast, embark on the trek from Bhanjung to Bajredara, traversing dense forests of bamboo, rhododendrons, and other flora. This 5-6 kilometer trek, which takes approximately 4-5 hours, is a challenging uphill climb. Spend the night in tents at Bajredara.

Day 4: BAJREDARA TO PANGREYTAR/MELLIACHING (16 KM Downhill Trek 6 Hours)

Start your day early with a stunning sunrise view from the top of Bajredara. After breakfast, continue your journey to Melliaching with a 16-kilometer downhill trek, taking approximately 5-6 hours. Enjoy a hot lunch at the Bhanjung campsite along the way. Spend the night at Melliaching.

Day 5: MELLIACHING TO NJP

After an early breakfast, depart from Melliaching for NJP. The drive will take approximately 7 hours.

  • Staying at homestay at Melliaching, camping during trek, all food during the trek from Day 1 dinner to Day 5 breakfast.
  • All trekking and camping equipment, medical assistance and first aid kit.
  • All forest permits, trekking permits and sanctuary permit.
  • Healthy Veg/non-veg meals as per your choice.
  • Transportation cost from Jorethang to Basecamp & Endcamp to Jorethang.
Exclusions
  • Pickup and drop cost from/to NJP
  • Any other food for your need.
  • Personal rucksack carrying cost by porters during trek. ( on advance booking basis)
  • Any kind of personal expenses.
  • Anything not specially mentioned under ‘inclusions’.

How to Reach at Jorethang?

The nearest railway stations are New Jalpaiguri Junction and Siliguri Junction, while the closest airport is Bagdogra Airport. To reach Jorethang, take a shared cab from Siliguri Junction (SNT Bus Stand) around 7:30 am to 8:00 am.

Payment & Cancellation Policy:
  • Book your slot with 30% advance payment and rest of the payment can be done on or before 30 days of the departure date.
  • Any trekker tested positive for Covid-19 before joining the trek, his/her trek fee will be carried forward for 1 year to avail any of our treks.
  • Due to any reason if we have to cancel our trek plans, you will be notified and you will get the full refund.
  • Cancellation done 30 days before the departure date, get 90% refund of the full trek fee or get full fee back by book with us for the next trek or batch.
  • Cancellation done between 30 days to 20 days before the departure date, get 70% refund or get  90% full fee back by book with us for the next trek or batch.
  • Cancellation done between 10 days to 20 days before the departure date, get 50 % refund or get 60% full fee back by book with us for the next trek or batch.
  • Cancellation done less than 10 days before the departure date, no refund will be provided or get 40% full fee back by book with us for the next trek or batch.
