Trek Overview

You must be wondering what is Barsey Gorkhey hiking? The gentle walk from Hilley to Barsey and also from Bhareng to Gorkhey inside pristine jungle is probably one of the finest in Sikkim. More than 250 cm of rainfall and above 2000 m of altitude makes the prevailing climate of this area wet and cold and hence proved ideal for it’s dominant floral genus Rhododendron to grow rapidly and diversify. April and May are the best months to visit this place if Rhododendrons, a lots of them, fascinates you. With the onset of spring Rhododendrons start blooming all around the terrain and stays till mid May, till monsoon takes over.

If you are in luck, Mt. Kanchenjunga is also visible from Barsey Guras Kunj (trekkers hut in Barsey) in the early morning. In the dense forest of Pine, Oak, Rhododendrons, you surely wish to get lost into the nature to find your soul, while you trek to this sanctuary. Also with great hospitality of locals, local food will make you feel like home while you will be staying in these villages of Okhrey & Gorkhey.

Short Itinerary

• Day 1: NJP TO OKHREY
  Early morning drive from NJP to reach Okhrey. After lunch, Spend some quality time at Okhrey. Overnight stay at Okhrey.
• Day 2: OKHREY TO BARSEY
  After breakfast, we will drive you to Hilley and start your trek to Barsey through lush beautiful forest of Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary.(5 kms hike/2-3 hours hike) Spend the rest of the day inside the sanctuary. Overnight Stay at Barsey.
• Day 3: BARSEY TO SAMANDEN VIA BHARENG
  Next day, after breakfast we will return back to Hilley and drive to Bhareng. Then start your trek to Gorkhey through the vast forest of Pine trees (5kms hike/2 hours). Spend the rest of the day at Gorkhey Khola. Overnight stay at Gorkhey/Samanden.
• Day 4: SAMANDEN TO SILIGURI VIA RAMMAM
  After breakfast trek to Rammam (2 hrs hike) via Samanden . The trek ends in Rammam. Share cars are available to drop you to NJP via Srikhola.

How to Reach at basecamp?

Nearest Railway Station is New Jalpaiguri Junction or Siliguri Junction and Nearest airport is Bagdogra Airport. You can take a share cab from Siliguri (SNT bus stand) which is just 15-20 minutes away from New Jalpaiguri/Siliguri Junction station/ Bagdogra Airport to reach Jorethang and then take another share cab to reach to our Basecamp at Okhrey. We will help you to keep a seat for you in that car (have to inform atleast 2 days before the departure date).

We can also arrange a personal car to drop you to our base camp whose cost will be divided by the trekkers on earlier request basis. ( cab cost will be Rs. 6000/-). It will take around 5-6 hours to reach base camp from Siliguri, so plan accordingly.

Payment & Cancellation Policy:

• Book your slot with 30% advance payment and rest of the payment can be done on or before 30 days of the departure date.
• Any trekker tested positive for Covid-19 before joining the trek, his/her trek fee will be carried forward for 1 year to avail any of our treks.
• Due to any reason if we have to cancel our trek plans, you will be notified and you will get the full refund.
• Cancellation done 30 days before the departure date, get 90% refund of the full trek fee or get full fee back by book with us for the next trek or batch.
• Cancellation done between 30 days to 20 days before the departure date, get 70% refund or get  90% full fee back by book with us for the next trek or batch.
• Cancellation done between 10 days to 20 days before the departure date, get 50 % refund or get 60% full fee back by book with us for the next trek or batch.
• Cancellation done less than 10 days before the departure date, no refund will be provided or get 40% full fee back by book with us for the next trek or batch.
