Eligibility:

Previous high altitude trekking experience is must.

The climber must be fit and have sufficient stamina to cover 5 km of distance in 30 minutes without a stress.

The climber should be able to carry personal backpack.

Heart problem, high blood pressure, asthma, and epilepsy cannot be reconciled on this mission. The climber must not have the conditions mentioned above.

Best Time to Visit:
October – November can be the best time to be on this trek to get the high chances of best view. While in the month of April-May, trail will be full of Rhododendron flowers and you can find snow in the high altitude regions. Chance of getting Snow is higher in the month of April in Dzongri Trek.

Trek Overview

The Yuksom–Dzongri trek is one of the most popular treks in Sikkim, offering a perfect blend of dense forests, alpine meadows, and panoramic Himalayan views. Starting from Yuksom, the trail takes you through charming villages, suspension bridges, and rhododendron forests before opening up to vast high-altitude landscapes. The highlight of the trek is Dzongri Top, which offers breathtaking sunrise views over Mt. Kanchenjunga, Mt. Pandim, and surrounding peaks.


This 5-night, 6-day adventure is moderately challenging, making it ideal for both beginners with good fitness levels and experienced trekkers. Along the way, trekkers experience the rich cultural heritage of Tibetan settlements, the peace of camping under starry skies, and the thrill of high-altitude trekking. By the time you descend back to Yuksom, you’ll carry memories of snow-clad peaks, serene trails, and a sense of achievement that stays long after the journey ends..

Itinerary

Day 1: NJP to Yuksom

Start your journey with a scenic drive from NJP Railway Station or Siliguri to Yuksom, the base village for the trek in West Sikkim. The drive takes around 7 hours and takes you through lush valleys, winding mountain roads, and views of Himalayan foothills. Overnight stay at a guesthouse in Yuksom.

Day 2: Yuksom to Bhakhim

Begin your trek through lush forests of oak, pine, and rhododendron. The well-marked trail gradually ascends along the Rathong River, crossing suspension bridges. Trek distance is about 13 km and takes 6–7 hours to reach Bhakhim, a small settlement offering stunning mountain views. Overnight stay in trekkers’ huts or tents.

Day 3: Bhakhim to Dzongri

Continue your trek uphill through dense forests and alpine meadows, eventually reaching Dzongri via Tshoka and Phedang. This is a challenging section but rewards you with panoramic views of Mt. Pandim, Kabru, and Kanchenjunga. Trek covers 11–12 km in 6–7 hours. Overnight camping at Dzongri.

Day 4: Summit Dzongri Top and Trek back to Tshoka

Wake up early for a sunrise hike to Dzongri Top (4,020 m) where you’ll witness breathtaking views of Kanchenjunga and surrounding peaks. After soaking in the beauty, descend back via Phedang to reach Tshoka. Trek distance around 12 km, taking 6–7 hours. Overnight stay at Tshoka.

Day 5: Tshoka to Yuksom

Retrace your steps downhill through the forested trail, crossing wooden bridges and rivers. The 15 km trek takes about 6–7 hours, bringing you back to Yuksom. Overnight stay at a guesthouse.

Day 6: Yuksom to NJP/Bagdogra
After breakfast, drive back from Yuksom to NJP Railway Station or Bagdogra Airport. The 7-hour drive marks the end of your adventurous Sikkim trek with unforgettable mountain memories.

7. Fees of Guide, Cook and Support staff, who are very well familiar with local conditions, routes and mythological stories which are related to this whole trek.

Exclusion

1. Any kind of personal expenses.

2. Mules or porter to carry personal luggage of team. Charges are extra 500/- per bag/day.

3. Emergency evacuation, hospitalization charges etc.

4. Anything which is not mentioned under the inclusion is excluded.

How to Reach Dzongri: Starting from Yuksom, Sikkim?

To embark on the Dzongri Trek, you’ll first need to reach Yuksom, a small town in Sikkim where the trek both begins and ends. Yuksom is approximately 150 km from Siliguri, New Jalpaiguri (NJP), and Bagdogra in West Bengal, forming a convenient tri-junction for travel.

Key Transit Points: Siliguri, NJP, and Bagdogra

Siliguri is the nearest major city, with NJP serving as its railway station and Bagdogra as its airport. Both the railway station and airport are within 10 km of Siliguri, making it easy to reach by train or flight depending on your location. It’s advisable to arrive early in the morning on the day you plan to head to Yuksom.

Traveling by Train

If you’re traveling by train, you’ll arrive at NJP, which is Siliguri’s station. Most trains to NJP come from Kolkata, but there are also direct trains from Delhi that bypass Kolkata. Due to high demand, train tickets tend to sell out quickly, so booking in advance is highly recommended.

Traveling by Flight

The closest airport to Yuksom is Bagdogra, which is well-connected by flights from major cities like Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad. From Bagdogra, you can easily arrange transport to Yuksom.

Traveling by Bus

If flights are expensive and trains are fully booked, you have the option of flying to Kolkata and taking a bus to Siliguri. Although the bus journey takes around 14 hours, you can opt for sleeper buses for comfort, and the route is relatively smooth.

From Siliguri to Dzongri:

Once you’ve reached Siliguri, follow local travel guides or arranged transportation to reach Yuksom, your basecamp for the Dzongri Trek.

Detour Policy

1. Incase of Detour due to act of God/landslides/any other reasons road blockage happens, then extra charges will be applicable for taking too long alternative routes. (Free upto 50 kms detour option in all total trip plan)

2. During trip, driver’s decision will be final depending upon the road condition. (No refund will be processed for any closure of Sightseeing points due to any road closure/landslides/any other reasons).

Payment Policy

For booking confirmation, 30% of Total Amount to be collected as an advance amount.
After the payment, your booking will be confirmed and Booking ID will be shared with you. Kindly keep that for future reference.
Remaining Payment Amount to be collected 3 days before of the starting date.

Cancellation Policy
  • 80% of total amount will be refunded if cancelled on or before 30 days of check-in Date/trip starting date.
  • 70% of total amount will be Refunded if cancelled between 30 days and 15 days of check-in/trip start date.
  • 50% of total amount will be refunded if cancelled between 15 days to 3 days of Check-in/trip start date.
  • No refund if cancelled from 3 days to at the time of Check-in/trip start date.
  • You can reschedule your stay within one year of your booking Check-in date only if due to any valid urgent medical emergency/any of the traveler tested Covid positive/any govt lockdown or Restrictions imposed and you have to submit the valid documents for that reason to avail it.
